Itanium Processor
The only processor compatible with 64-bit Windows and incompatible with 32-bit Windows is the Intel Itanium. The Itanium makes use of a unique instruction set called IA-64 that requires an operating process written specifically for it. The only Windows versions that run on Itanium processors are the x64 editions of Windows XP Professional, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. Program Add-ons
Some program -- such as the parts of the Adobe Creative Suite -- supports third-party add-ons for added functionality. An add-on written for a 64-bit program contains 64-bit code for best performance and won't work with the 32-bit version of the same program.
